Carter’s Crypt setup: make your Tar go further

Start with the right kind of improvement

Carter’s specialities are Crypt exploration efficiency and Tar capacity. Those help with different parts of a Crypt run, so compare the bonus lines rather than treating every improvement as a Tar discount.

Prepare Carter’s equipment and research

Activate Carter and inspect his equipment before choosing the march. Prefer relevant exploration bonuses over unrelated battle statistics for this task. Review Archaeology research and the bonuses on the actual equipment you own.

If you already have Premium, Great Archaeologist is the title designed for Crypt activity. It improves exploration-related statistics, but it competes with your other Premium title choices.

Equip Torch of Olympus

Torch of Olympus improves Crypt exploration efficiency, making it a useful addition to Carter’s exploration setup. Artifact slots unlock when you research level 4 Guardsmen. Open Carter’s management screen, equip the Torch and check its current bonus before sending him to a Crypt.

The Torch adds to your exploration setup alongside Carter’s own bonuses, equipment and research. Its efficiency bonus improves exploration progress; it is not a direct percentage discount on Tar costs.

Improve the Torch’s bonuses

The main exploration-efficiency bonus grows with the artifact’s level and star progression. Fully unlocking stars also adds random bonuses, so the additional benefits can differ between players.

Read each unlocked bonus on your Torch and check which Crypt types it applies to. A bonus restricted to one type should not be counted for every Crypt. Compare the complete setup against the same target before and after an upgrade.

Use the percentages shown on your artifact’s current screen. There is no single bonus percentage for every Torch: its level, stars and unlocked random bonuses all matter. Before spending fragments, inspect the next upgrade and the possible bonuses shown in the game.

How to get Torch of Olympus

Take part in Trials of Olympus with your clan. Its clan ranking rewards include Torch of Olympus fragments when the clan meets the required points for its division. Check the event’s reward panel for your division’s thresholds and fragment amounts.

Coordinate with your clan about fragment distribution. Ranking rewards held by the clan are not necessarily an automatic equal share for every member, so agree how unlocks and upgrades will be prioritised.

Once you have enough fragments, unlock the Torch or advance its stars from the artifact screen. Use Artifact Experience to raise its level within the available limit. Check the displayed fragment requirement and next bonus before spending resources.

Use the event calendar to plan for Trials of Olympus, then confirm the live event and rewards in the game.

Choose the target before choosing the budget

Common Crypts use ordinary Tar and supply standard equipment materials. Rare Crypts use Rare Tar and supply gems; they also require the appropriate research and key. Epic Crypts use Epic Tar and supply unique equipment materials.

Decide what you need first. An expensive Crypt is not automatically the best use of your stock if its rewards do not support your current goal.

Check a real march preview

• Select a Crypt of the type and level you intend to explore.
• Confirm Carter is selected and his exploration artifact is equipped.
• Check the Tar type, amount carried and displayed exploration information.
• Compare the same target after changing one piece of your setup.
• Read the result after returning before committing the rest of your stock.

Keep Crypt type and level constant in comparisons. A higher-level Crypt can obscure the benefit of a better setup because it has different requirements.

More Tar does not mean the same thing as lower cost

Taking more Tar than the base amount can speed completion, and the exploration calculation includes an additional efficiency benefit for that approach. It is not a blanket promise that increasing every march’s load is always the cheapest decision.

Avoid assuming that a possible double-explore result will happen on every march. Plan enough reserve to complete your chosen target if you get an ordinary result.

Keep a useful Crypt log

For a few runs, note the Crypt type, level, Carter setup, total Tar spent and whether you finished it. Compare complete runs rather than only the first march. Travel time and total Tar are separate measures of success.

Carter’s bonuses stop increasing after level 300, even though the overall Captain level cap is higher. Check the benefit available on his current screen before investing solely for a larger exploration bonus.
